What Are Well Child Visits?

Well child visits are your child’s regular checkups with their pediatrician. At Tanque Verde Pediatrics in Tucson, these visits help ensure your child is growing and developing as expected while staying up to date on recommended vaccines. They also allow families to discuss health or behavior concerns. These visits are scheduled at key ages throughout childhood, beginning shortly after birth and continuing through the teen years.

What Happens at a Well Visit?

Measure growth: Height, weight, and head circumference (for infants) are tracked to ensure healthy growth patterns.
Monitor development: Age-appropriate milestones in language, motor skills, and social and emotional development are reviewed.
Perform a physical exam: A full head-to-toe exam helps identify any early signs of illness or delay.
Review nutrition, sleep, and safety: Guidance is provided to support healthy habits at home.
Update immunizations: Vaccines are given based on the AAP’s recommended schedule to protect your child from preventable diseases.
Address questions and concerns: Parents are encouraged to bring up any issues related to behavior, school performance, or family health.

Even when your child seems perfectly healthy, well visits are a crucial part of preventive care. These visits help:

Staying an Active Patient

Regular well visits are required to maintain active patient status in our practice. This ensures that your child’s medical history, growth records, and vaccines remain current – allowing us to provide safe, continuous, and comprehensive care whenever your child needs us.

Insurance and Additional Charges

Insurance companies distinguish between preventive care (the well visit itself) and problem-based care (evaluation of specific health concerns). If your child is seen for an issue outside the scope of the routine well exam – such as a new illness, chronic condition, or separate medical concern – your insurance may require that an additional visit fee or copay be billed.
